Lady Texans Tie School Record in Win Over Midland
LEVELLAND – The No. 1 ranked South Plains College Lady Texans tied a school record thanks to an 83-58 win over Midland College Saturday at the Texan Dome.
The Lady Texans won their 25th straight game to tie the school record for consecutive wins set by the 2001-02 team. This year's Lady Texans will have a chance to break the record Monday when they host Western Texas College at 5:50 for Pack the Dome Night.
Against Midland, SPC (25-0 overall, 9-0 conference) raced out to an 8-0 lead thanks to two field goals each by Mariame Djouara and Ashlee Roberson. The Lady Texans quickly increased their lead to 16 (23-7) as Dominic Seals, Alana Rumph, Ashely Malone and A.J. Adams all scored points. South Plains led by as many as 19 in the first half and had a 42-25 lead at halftime.
The lead grew to 32 in the second half as SPC scored the first 15 points of the half. Midland (17-8, 6-3) didn't score their first point of the second half until the 14:41 mark.
Seals led SPC with 19 points, while Roberson added 18, Rumph scored 12, Ashley Frazier had 11 points and 10 assists, and Djouara scored 10. Also for South Plains, Brittany Blackmon added 6 points, Adams had 4, Krystal Davis scored 2 and Malone added 1.
For Midland, Sylwia Zabielewicz led the way with 10 points.
