SPC Lady Texans Defeat Odessa 75-57

LEVELLAND – The No. 1 ranked South Plains College Lady Texans held No. 5 Odessa College without a point for the final 9:45 of the first half and turned a 4-point game into an 18-point lead Thursday during their 75-57 win over the Lady Wranglers.

South Plains (21-0 overall, 5-0 conference) led 25-21 midway through the first half thanks to eight points from Mariame Djouara. But it was the final 10 minutes of the first half that made the difference in the game. SPC outscored the Wranglers 14-0 during the final 9:45 of the half to take a 39-21 lead into halftime. Ashlee Roberson scored 10 points during that run. The Lady Texans shot 63 percent from the field in the first half.

Odessa's scoreless drought continued into the second half. They didn't score a point until Juanita Ward made a layup four minutes into the half. By then, the Lady Texans had a 49-23 lead. South Plains led by as many as 28 in the second half and Odessa (14-2, 2-1) didn't get the lead down under 20 until the final minute of the game.

The Lady Texans finished the game shooting 59 percent from the field while holding Odessa to just 34 percent. The Lady Wranglers were only 3 of 17 on 3-pointers.

Roberson led SPC with 20 points, while Dominic Seals added 16, Mariame Djouara had 13 and Alana Rumph added 10. Also for the Lady Texans, Brittany Blackmon scored 7, Ashely Malone had 6, Ashley Frazier scored 2 and A.J. Adams added 1. Frazier dished out 8 assists and Seals pulled down 8 rebounds.

For Odessa, Ward had 25 points and 11 rebounds.

The Lady Texans will have a week off before traveling to Big Spring to take on Howard on Feb. 1.
