Lady Texans' Win Streak Snapped
ODESSA – The No. 1 ranked South Plains College Lady Texans committed 34 turnovers and had their 27-game winning streak halted in a 69-57 loss at No. 5 Odessa College Monday.
South Plains (27-1 overall, 11-1 conference) had eight turnovers in the first five minutes of the game and didn't hit their first field goal until the 13:56 mark. By then they were already down by 7 (12-5). They wouldn't get any closer until the last five minutes of the game.
Odessa (21-2, 9-1) pushed their lead to 14 in the first half and were ahead 31-20 at halftime. At the half, SPC already had 20 turnovers.
The Lady Wranglers quickly upped their lead to 15 (38-23) in the second half and were ahead 53-40 with just 7:40 remaining in the game. But the Lady Texans used baskets by Dominic Seals and Alana Rumph and a 3-pointer by Ashley Frazier to cut the deficit to 55-49 with 4:50 remaining. That would be as close as SPC could get as Odessa scored the next four points and held on to win by 12.
Seals had 19 points and 9 rebounds to lead South Plains, while Ashlee Roberson added 16 points, Rumph scored 8, Brittany Blackmon had 6, Mariame Djouara added 5 and Frazier had 3.
For Odessa, Juanita Ward had 24 points and 10 rebounds, while Chandrea Jones added 17 points.
The Lady Texans will be back in action on Monday when they host Howard College at 5:50 p.m.
