LEVELLAND – South Plains College will offer an NRA Basic Rifle class on October 11th - 12th (Saturday and Sunday) in Room 115 of the Law Enforcement Technology Building. The cost of the course is $75, and students need to register and pay in advance. Space is limited.
The class will begin at 9 a.m. on October 11 with breaks every hour as well as a lunch break, and continue on October 12, at 2 p.m. Students must attend both parts, and must be 12 years-old or older.
The course runs at least 14 hours depending on the number of students, and includes classroom and range time. Students learn NRA's rules for safe gun handling; rifle parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest, prone, sitting, standing and kneeling positions; cleaning; and continued opportunities for skill development. The cost includes the NRA Guide to the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, and Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet. Ear and eye protection, .22 rifles and ammunition will be provided.
This is an excellent course for new rifle shooters or for a warm-up for hunting season.
