Beginning Web Page Programming

1. TO GET STARTED:

• The student is required to go to https://webct.southplainscollege.edu and enter the WebCT ID and Password as described on the Login Page.  The student should read the Course Syllabus and the Course Prerequisites for comprehension.
   
• The student will receive an e-mail from the instructor with a blank student questionnaire as  an attachment.  The student is required to e-mail the instructor using the WebCT mail tool by the third class day of the semester. The student will verify in this e-mail that he/she has the minimum technology skills as stated later in this document.  The student will also verify in this e-mail that he/she has access to a computer with the minimum system requirements as stated later in this document.  The student will include the completed student questionnaire as an attachment to their WebCT e-mail.

• The student will receive instructions on how to get started with the course by the third class day of the semester conditional upon sending the required e-mail.

2. PREREQUISITES:
    
   • A willingness to think.
      
   • Technology Prerequisites:
     Students in Introduction to Computer Science online classes must have at least a minimum set of Information Technology-based communication skills. At a minimum these include:
      
     • Typing skills.
     • Word processing skills.
     • Know basic functionality of a computer and how to do basic troubleshooting.
     • Know how to connect to the Internet.
     • Know basics of how the Internet works and how to search and conduct research using the Internet.
     • Know how to download files from the Internet.
     • Know how to compose, reply, and forward email messages.
     • Know how to attach and open documents in an email message.
     • Have basic file management skills.

     • Know how to save and delete documents.
        

3. SUPPLIES:
    
   • Students must have access to a personal computer with these minimum system requirements:

   • Microsoft® Windows®  98, 2000, NT, ME, or XP
   • 128 MB available hard drive space and 64 MB RAM
   • Pentium II, 233 MHz or higher processor
   • VGA display
   • Mouse or compatible point device
   • Browser – Internet Explorer is needed to access web links that will support WebCT.
   • Notepad is needed to develop HTML and scripting languages
