In a SKILLS-USA competition, students can compete in practical skill contests, written technical knowledge, and chapter business operations.The South Plains College team competed in all of these groups of competition. This is our third year of competition. Again we have a national qualifier. This years national representative was in the Automotive Service Technology field.

2004 Skills Team From South Plains College

All the team members from the San Antonio contest on March 26-27, 2004. A bunch of medals on this victory trip! Students from automotive, diesel, HVAC and welding programs at South Plains College make up this excellent team from some excellent technical programs.

Competitors are tested on general knowledge and current events, etc. in a game like competition. The team from South Plains College took the Bronze medal.

All skill competitors take a written exam on their technical skill areas. Chris Chappell won the Gold in Automotive technology skills contest. He also captured the Silver in the technical information and Bronze in Quiz Bowl. Chris is on his way to Nationals in Kansas City! Congratulations Chris! State Winner, Automotive Service Technology
