SUMMARY

Responsibilities include maintaining and upgrading Levelland campus Business Administration/Computer Information Systems Technology Center Open Lab and classroom facilities including updates, upgrades, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hardware and software; enforcing lab policies; supervising evening lab supervisor, work-study, non/work-study, and scholar assistants concerning assigned duties and student assistance with basic computer technology skills; Technology Center room coordination for all SPC faculty and staff; other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Recommends for hire, trains, and supervises work-study, non/work-study, scholar assistants and practicum students and timesheets. (Average 10 students per semester)

Recommends for hire, trains, and supervises Technology Center Evening Lab Supervisor.

Responsible for maintaining and upgrading:

  • 78 computers and 6 printers in the Levelland Campus Open Lab
  • 207 computers and 13 printers in 8 classrooms in the Technology Center
  • 2 Servers
  • Technology Center network and college network interface
  • Computer Security Updates
  • Assist computer maintenance with Business Administration/CIS instructors and staff
  • Responsible for Technology Center room coordination for all SPC faculty and staff
  • Install, trouble-shoot, and maintain program & instructor specific software in the open lab (math players, i-tunes university, etc.) for all departments on campus
  • Supervise Technology Center lab facilities ensuring lab is open and manned during scheduled hours and that all applicable policies are followed
  • Supervise student assistance as appropriate, particularly regarding use of computing facilities and software
  • Responsible for registration duties including equipment setup for data entry and equipment support for advisors
  • Additional duties as assigned by Business Administration/CIS Department Chairperson, Dean of Technical Education, Vice President for Academic Affairs, or President

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervise Part-time Night Lab Supervisor, work-study, non/work-study, scholar assistants and practicum students employed in Technology Center

WORK HOURS/SCHEDULE

37.5 hours per week over 12 months 

Normally scheduled position hours are 8:00am until 4:00pm

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or other recognized equivalent, required.

Demonstrable proficiency with Microsoft Office products, required

Experience working with individuals in a teaching environment, preferred.  

Associate of Applied Science in CIS (or related field) or equivalent work experience, preferred.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Basic computer skills such as knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and slide presentation packages, required.

Ability to install, maintain, troubleshoot, diagnose and perform basic repair on computers and software, preferred.  

Experience in network, server administration, security and related tasks, desired.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional and technical handbooks, technical writings, and/or governmental regulations.

Ability to complete record keeping as directed.

Must be able to communicate effectively in oral and written manner and present information and respond to questions from individuals or groups in a reasonable and helpful manner.

Must be able to deal with conflict in a professional and appropriate manner, should it arise.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Basic math skills (ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide), required.

REASONING ABILITY

Demonstrates the ability to handle situations in a reasonable, logical, and productive fashion. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
