MATH 2413
Textbook: Calculus, by Thomas and Finney
COURSE OUTCOMES: A student completing this course will be able to:
Perform operations with Limits
Take the derivative of various functions using the definition of the derivative
Use the Chain Rule, Product Rule, Quotient Rule and Power Rule to determine the derivatives of functions
Solve practical problems using the rules for derivation
Evaluate indefinite integrals using anti-derivatives
Evaluate definite integrals using limits of integration
Determine areas under curves and between curves
Calculate volumes of solids obtained by rotating graphs around various axes
Use the Shell method, Cylinder method and Disk method for calculating volumes
Grading
There will be 4 Tests, a Quiz/Homework grade and a Comprehensive Final. The weights will be as follows:
I will assign HW on a nightly basis and you will be responsible for all work assigned for test material, however I will not take up the homework or check that you have done it. Each quiz should contain the following heading format: John Smith, 6/6/06, # 1, 31, 47.
All problems turned in should be in a neat and organized manner and must be done in pencil. I do not accept pen for any assignment. Any work turned in to me in pen will be automatically discarded including exams.
I expect all graphing to be done on graph paper. This will help both of us in understanding which function you are trying to represent.
Attendance and effort are the two most important aspects of succeeding in a math class. If you miss more than 5 consecutive days or 6 total days you may be dropped with an F at my discretion.
