South Plains College announces NRA Basic Pistol class Jan. 20-21

 

LEVELLAND – South Plains College will offer the NRA Basic Pistol Class from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 20 (Saturday) and 1 to 5 p.m. on Jan. 21 (Sunday) in the Law Enforcement Technology building. The cost is $85, and lunch is not provided.

This co-ed class will teach participants about firearm safety, how ammunition and handguns work, different types of handguns, firearm safety, handgun terminology, firearm safety, cleaning handguns, proper shooting skills, firearm safety, purchasing a new or used handgun, available shooting opportunities and firearm safety. This is a great class for anyone, regardless of shooting experience, and all equipment is provided (including ammo and handguns).

The instructor will be Steve and Audra Dyer.

Participants will receive a copy of the NRA’s Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook plus an NRA certificate. Students will learn how to advance through the NRA’s marksmanship program to earn marksmanship awards. Expert instructors will teach proper marksmanship fundamentals, and students will learn to shoot from the bench rest, two hand standing and one hand standing positions. Note: Participants must be law-abiding citizens who may lawfully possess a handgun.

Students will be given the opportunity to shoot various calibers and actions at the end of class, time permitting, for an additional $10 fee (payable the day of class).
