SPC’s Livestock Judging Team wins State Fair of Texas competition

 

LEVELLAND – For the second year in a row, the South Plains College Livestock Judging team recently claimed the championship title in the State Fair of Texas competition in Dallas. 

“We won this event last year and we were able to go back-to-back this year,” said Conner Newsom, coach of the SPC Livestock Judging Team. “It’s a refreshing end to the week and we just picked up where we left off.” 

In the pro division (sophomores), SPC won High Point Team Overall, Champion High Team in the Cattle division as well as Reserve High Team in Sheep &Goats, Swine and Reasons. 

Madison Shults of Meeker, Colo., won Reserve Overall Individual, High Individual Swine, fourth High Individual in Sheep & Goats and third High Individual in Reasons. Conner Cross of Wilkinson finished sixth Overall Individual. Ty Dunham of Meeker, Colo., won 12th Overall Individual and Tanner Keeton of Borger finished 13th Overall Individual. 

In the novice division (freshmen), SPC finished fourth High Team Overall, Reserve High Team in the Cattle division and fourth High Team in Swine and Reasons. 

Austin Graves of Crane finished sixth Overall Individual, eighth High Individual in Swine, tenth High Individual in Sheep & Goats and sixth High Individual in Reasons. Lane Goodroe of Moultrie, Ga., won High Individual in Cattle. 

The sophomores of the SPC Livestock Judging Team will compete in Kansas City on Oct. 27.

LIVESTOCK CHAMPIONS – The South Plains College Livestock Judging Team recently won the State Fair of Texas overall championship held recently in Dallas.
