Occidental Petroleum enhances recruitment efforts for South Plains College graduates

 

LEVELLAND – In a cooperative venture to provide employment opportunities for graduates of South Plains College’s technical programs, Occidental Petroleum is recruiting students in Industrial Manufacturing and Electrical and Power Transmission Technology programs.

Occidental will visit the Levelland campus this fall to recruit students, and they will have a booth at the Career Expo in Lubbock on Oct. 23. 

Occidental’s Talent Acquisition Manager Kim Franklin said, “We offer a Two-Year Technical Recruitment Program for recent graduates as well as graduating May 2019 students to begin their career path with Occidental in West Texas and Southeastern New Mexico. Internship opportunities are also a part of Occidental’s Two-Year Technical Recruitment Program, and we offer scholarships to assist SPC students in the Industrial Manufacturing and Electrical and Power Transmission Technology programs beginning in fall 2018.” 

The company provides a two-year Technical Hiring Program for recent graduates that have completed their AAS in technical programs such as Industrial Manufacturing and ELPT. The program will consist of training and development opportunities. 

The company is currently recruiting for the following positions:

 

Production Technician/Pumper

The primary objective of a Production Technician is the interaction with Well Analysts, Pump Off Controller (POC) /Inject Well Controller (IWC) technicians, and Lift Specialists to maximize production capacity and profitability. This role collaborates daily to determine producing well exceptions and performs diagnostics to return wells to production. 

POC/IWC

In this assignment, you will be responsible for installation, programming, calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of automation facility equipment in order to improve oilfield system operation/uptime and reduce total operating costs. 

Electrical Technician

In this assignment, you will be responsible for the troubleshooting, installation, programming, calibration, preventive maintenance, process understanding and repair of electrical equipment in order to improve field system operation/uptime and reduce total operating costs. 

Equipment Technician

In this assignment, you will be responsible for the preventive/predictive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of oilfield surface equipment. This includes knowledge and skills to maintain equipment reliability of various pumps, compression (screw and reciprocating packages), and associated plant/field surface equipment.
