In order to achieve its mission, the South Plains College Radiologic Technology              Program is committed to the following Program goals:

  1. To Provide students an opportunity to acquire the technical skills, effective communication, patient assessment and patient care skills necessary to complete a full range of radiographic procedures on a diverse population of patients.

  2. To provide students with the problem solving and critical thinking skills necessary to make competent, informed clinical decisions regarding radiographic procedures.

  3. To providing employers and the community with graduate radiographers possessing the skills required to an entry-level medical radiographer.

The Radiologic Technology program consists of courses taught over a period of 24 consecutive months and culminates in an associate of Applied Science degree and eligibility for the national certification exam given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.  Successful scores will qualify you as a Technologist.  These credentials allow you to apply for a license to practice as a Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist.  These credentials allow you to apply for a license to practice as a Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist in the state of Texas.  Students who choose the Tech Prep option may receive an Enhanced Skills Certificate in Addition to the associate degree.  The Radiologic Technology Program is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and the Texas Coordinating Board for Higher Education.

Program advisor is Denny Barnes, assistant professor of Radiologic technology.

Program Admission Requirements

    The number of students admitted into the program at the beginning of each fall semester is limited by available space in the clinical education sites.  All individuals interested in admission to the program should contact the Radiologic Technology Program faculty for entrance criteria and a program application.  applicants must complete the following procedure:

  1. Apply for admission to South Plains College.  Admission to the college does not guarantee admission to the Radiologic Technology Program.

  2. Complete the prerequisite courses and as many of the remaining general studies courses found in the curriculum as possible.

  3. Submit an application packet that includes the Radiologic Technology Program application and all applicable college transcripts, including SPC transcripts between May 1 and July 10 of the year of intended program enrollment.  Applications will only be accepted person by appointment, not by mail or dropped off. 

A new Radiologic Technology class is selected once a year in July.

Tech Prep Enhanced Skills Certificate

    An enhanced Skills Certificate is a credential that is awarded concurrently with a Tech Prep Associate of Applied Science degree or as an additional certificate upon completion of specified technical courses.  The following courses are required for this certificate.
