The mission of the Child Development/Early Childhood program is to provide students with academic and practical experiences that will enhance employment opportunities in the field of child development and early childhood, as well as prepare students for continuing higher education at the university level.
Program Goals and Objectives
The CDEC program will develop student competencies in the standards set forth by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
The Child Development/Early Childhood program will prepare students to:
- Promote child development and learning, based on characteristics and needs
- Build family and community relationships to support child development and learning
- Observe, document, and assess to support young children and families
- Use effective teaching and learning approaches, strategies and tools for early education
Demonstrate professional attitudes and behaviors in the field of early care and education.
