Cross Country teams dominate San Angelo, Subway meets

The South Plains College Texans took home the team title after competing at the ASU Blue and Gold Classic in San Angelo.

The Lady Texans narrowly missed the team title at the Oct. 13 meet after scoring 40 team points, two points behind Angelo State.

The Texans swept the top three individual places, collecting 20 team points.       Tallam Kipruto completed the 8,000-meter course in 26:08.00, taking home the individual championship. Kipruto's SPC teammates, Mitchell Driver and Anthony Pequeno, placed second and third respectively, with the times of 28:03.00 and 28:32.00.

Robert Castanon placed fifth with a time of 29:01.00, and Marcelis Lynch, who was ninth, rounded out the SPC scoring five with the time of 29:40.00. Also competing for SPC were Tommie Lloyd, who finished 10th with a time of 29:50.00, Josh Harris, who finished in 18th in 33:41.00, and Elijah Pollock, who placed 24th with a time of 37:17.00.

The Lady Texans were led by

Lisa Forsberg, who won the individual

championship as well. Forsberg completed

the 5,000-meter course in 20:13.00.

SPC teammates Shayla Contreras and Kadian Dunkely placed in the top 10 finishing fifth and seventh respectively. Contreras posted a time of 20:49.00, while Dunkley finished 21:53.00. Paulina Wilson finished 13th with a time of 21:53.00.

Crystal Dickinson finished in 17th with a time of  22:41.00. Paulina Engfoors finished 19th in 23:16.00, with teammate Lorianne Pattee finishing 32nd in 27:51.00.

The SPC Texans placed four runners in the top 10 and cruised to a 10-point victory on Oct. 10 at the Subway Cross Country Festival in Levelland.

Kipruto took the individual championship, completing the 8,000-meter course in 23:55.00, 14 seconds ahead of the second finisher.

Pequeno was the second Texan across the line, finishing fourth overall in 24:25.66, followed by Driver in sixth place with a  time of 24:29.86. Castanon finished eighth with a time of 25:10.21, and Lloyd rounded out the Texan top five by finishing 16th with a time of 25:47.25.

Also competing for the Texans were Marcelis Lynch, who finished 25th with a time of 26:39.13, and Josh Harris, who finished 36th with a time of 28:43.97.

The Lady Texans, led by Forsberg, finished second in the overall team standings with 63 points. Forsberg finished second in the race individually, completing  the 5,000-meter course in 17:51.55.

Dunkley, SPC’s second finisher, crossed the line in 10th place with a time of 18:40.60, followed by Dickinson, who posted a time of 18:56.53, and Contreras, who posted a time or 18:59.68. Dickinson and Contreras placed 15th and 16th, respectively.

Wilson rounded out the scoring for the Lady Texans, finishing 27th with a time of 20:21.56. Engoors finished 33rd with a time of 20:46.60, and Shakeeri Cole finished 37th with a time of 21:39.28.

The cross country squads will return to action on Oct. 31 when they travel to Roswell, N.M. for the NJCAA Regions 5 Cross Country Championship.
