Art restoration uncovers previous retouching

Two historic
paintings from South Plains College’s Marjorie M. Post Art
Collection recently underwent extensive restorations,
restoring the portraits to museum quality.
Grants from the
CH Foundation and the Helen Jones Foundation funded the
restoration. The paintings, Granville, 2nd Earl
of Gower, and Caroline, Queen of George II, were shipped to
Austin-based Conservator Mark Van Gelder and were returned
in October.
Foreign Language Festival set for Nov. 6

South Plains College will host the 18th Annual
Foreign Language Festival on Nov. 6.
The event will be held
from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the Levelland campus.
Applications for fall graduation due Nov. 5

Students who are
planning to graduate at the end of the fall semester must
submit a graduation application by Nov. 5.
Andrea Rangel,
the dean of admissions and records at South Plains College,
says, “The first step is to visit with their [the students]
program advisor to be sure they have completed everything.”
Career Expo gives students glimpse of future professions

With so many colleges and careers to choose from, it's hard
for a student to decide what he or she wants.
Thanks to South Plains
College and South Plains Tech Prep, choices were made easier
for students. SPC and Tech Prep recently hosted The Career
Expo at the Lubbock Civic Center.
Jazz Band set to play at Coronado High School Nov. 17

The South Plains
College Jazz Band will be featured in a concert on Nov. 17
at Coronado High School in Lubbock.
There will be
three groups performing during the concert, which gets under
way at 7 p.m. The first to play will be the CHS Jazz Band,
directed by Phil Sutherland, head band director for CHS.
Performing next will be the SPC Jazz Band, directed by Dr.
Bruce Keeling, chairperson of the Fine Arts Department.
Miss Caprock Pageant takes stage Nov. 20

For more than
50 years, South Plains College carries the tradition of
putting on the annual Miss Caprock Pageant.
The pageant is
held to provide a scholarship opportunity for students who
perform best throughout the pageant.
