Obama's 'change' campaign stalled on
stagnant America
by THOMAS D. MOONEY, entertainment editor He’s a socialist! He’s a
communist! He’s a fascist Nazi too! A radical Muslim
terrorist born in Africa!
We all know who we’re talking about.
It’s President Barack Obama. Surprisingly, Obama was elected
President of the United States and not of the al-Qaeda
chapter in Chicago.
Levelland lacks SPC spirit
by JENNIFER HARBIN, associate editor
If it weren’t for one of the main thoroughfares in Levelland
being named College Avenue, you might not even suspect that
it was home to South Plains College.
Respect forgotten concept in college classrooms
by BROOKE BAKER, staff writer
Texting, sleeping, drinking, and social networking seem to
be very popular in the average college classroom.
These habits are extremely
disrespectful to the professor giving the lecture and can be
summed up as bad classroom manners, or disrespecting your
elders, or any other name. But the point is, it is rude.
Scandalous Cyrus puts it all out there
by VANESSA GARCIA, sports editor
For parents, the one thing that matters to them is the
safety of their child, especially when the child gets older.
As a parent, that is my
main concern about my little girl. But for parent Billy Ray
Cyrus, that is the last thing on his mind.
Nothing wrong with substitute mom
by NADINE AGUIRRE, staff writer
I believe that it’s not wrong for a 19-month-old child to
call another woman mommy.
I say this because I have
a niece named Anaya, and this child means the world to me.
She is not mine
physically, but she is mine at heart. If anything would to
happen to my sister, Naomi, or my brother-in-law, Bobby, I
would take her in without hesitation.
Tribulations lead to perspective
by KASEY PUTMAN, staff writer
You never know
what you have until it’s gone.
Although this
saying is cliché when it comes to relationships, it is very
true in other aspects of life.
Stronger measures should be taken to prevent theft
by LISA HERNANDEZ, opinion editor
Sometimes when we choose to go out at night, whether it’s to
a club, a movie or your local 24-hour restaurant, we try to
park under a well-lit area to ensure the safety of our
vehicles and ourselves. But is that always enough?
Saving money vital for future
by TAUSHA ROSEN, editor-in-chief
I always find my thoughts drifting to the future – what my
career is going to be, how much money I will make, and even
what kind of car I’m going to drive.
These thoughts determine
how I live my life currently, because I’m fearful of having
a difficult future, especially with the way the economy is
working, or not working, today.
Jackson reality show causes controversy
by LISA HERNANDEZ, opinion editor
Michael Jackson did everything he could do to prevent his
kids from being hounded by cameras and the paparazzi.
He knew what it was like
to be in the public eye at a very young age, and he wanted
to make sure his kids didn’t go through the same thing. Some
might consider that the amount of time spent in the
spotlight was what eventually led to his sudden death. He
wouldn’t want the same for his children.
Higher education more for determined students
by ERICA PAUDA, news editor
In the three
years that I’ve been at South Plains College, I still cannot
seem to grasp the concept as to why people who do not have
any general common knowledge attempt to pursue an
educational career.
'Choking Game' can cause loss of brain cells
by JACOB BRADFORD, staff writer
My brother goes to Wink High School, in Wink, Texas.
Recently, the school sent home a paper home with him,
warning parents of a dangerous game called “The Choking
Game”.
Legal age should be defined by maturity, not numbers
by JOSH MYERS, staff writer
It seems someone is legally
considered an adult when he or she reaches their 18th
birthday.
But society, and government
laws, still in some ways, treat them like they are children.
Someone’s 18th birthday socially labels him or
her as an adult, and adults should be treated like adults.
So why can’t they legally consume alcohol before they are
21?
Fall fashions survival guide for trendy season
by JESSICA BROWN, staff writer
Newsstands everywhere give
you guidelines as to what will be popular for the upcoming
trends for fall, such as big belts, studded boots, and
oversized bags.
But I think it is equally as
important to know what not to wear for the fall fashion
frenzy. So I have taken it upon myself to put together a
fashion survival guide to help you know what to wear, as
well at what not to wear, this fall.
From carefree to confused
by LYNDSEY WOLF, staff writer
I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been this confused in all
my life.
It starts when we are
little, without a care in the world. What I would give to
have those days back.
