Two Lubbock friends form new
record label
by Zac Morris, staff writer
Lubbock has become home to
a new record label, formed by two guys who simply love music.
Abe
Casarez and Jaxson Williams recently established Broken Heart, “a label for
musicians.”
The
two met at Table Nine’s Battle of the Bands, but they want to let everyone
know that they are in no way associated with Table Nine. From this meeting
came a mutual reason for starting this label. Both agreed that they were,
“Sick of the direction the Lubbock music scene was going and wanted to bring
about a change,” according to Casarez.

Delta Psi Omega, the SPC
Theatre fraternity, will be presenting “FROZEN”, as the second completely
student-run production.
With a
small cast, “FROZEN”, which was written by Bryony Lavery, tells a story of
three different people and how their lives happen to come together, even
though each person’s circumstances have nothing to do with the two others’.
After the disappearance of 10-year-old Rhona, her mother, Nancy, embarks on a
search to find her missing daughter. Agnetha, an American academic, is on her
way to England to research her thesis: “Serial Killings: A Forgivable Act?”,
and Ralph Wantage plots out a mysterious plan that will forever change all of
their lives.
Trischka entertains with banjo skills
by Marissa Rauch, staff writer
Tony Trischka, one of the
world’s most renowned and innovative banjo players, recently performed at
South Plains College’s Commercial Music Building for eager fans.
Throughout his 30-year career, Trischka has defied boundaries and explored
wide variety of genres that had rarely before been considered for the banjo.
Trischka
first broke the banjo barrier with the release of his debut album, “Bluegrass
Light”, in 1973. On this album, Trischka performs both traditional tunes and
original tracks accompanied not only with bluegrass, but with jazz, rock, and
classical as well.

"Phantom" makes move from stage to big
screen
by Ray Buffington, entertainment editor
Broadway versus the big
screen – who will win? Not everyone can take a random flight to New York to go
see the classic productions Broadway has produced through the years whenever
they feel like going to see a play.
Johnson's "Dreams" CD sweet
by Chelsea Goldston, staff writer
Yes, Jack
Johnson’s third headline album - In Between Dreams - is finally here. Trust
me; it was well worth the wait. This album is definitely a must buy. There’s
a more upbeat tempo mixed, with his classic mellow moments, as well as a bit
of French style with “Belle”, though Johnson does not leave his comfort zone.
