One on One with One

 Desiree Mendez, staff writer

At a recent concert at Jake’s Backroom, a band called ONE made their first apperance in Lubbock.

The band ONE consists of four members Muk, vocals; Cheney Brannon, drums; John Ciulla, guitar and vocals and Kevin Sanchez, bass.  These guys met from South Florida on the Internet and then began their band, ONE.

Their music features melody with some heavy stuff.  The band has been around for three years, and has been touring nationally, playing in many small and large venues.  One is on tour with Sevendust, Bobaflex and Nonpoint.  They have played with  Socialburn and two local bands, Crimson Envy and Peace of Ash.

Guns-N-Roses, Stone Temple Pilots, Tommy Lee from Motley Crue, Rage Against the Machine, and Pantera are among the bands early influences. They describe themselves as “hard rock with great vocal melodies.” They combined some heavy guitar riffs with some melodic vocals.

ONE likes to come out and meet their fans, giving personal attention.  They also like to give out stickers and posters.  They love for people to walk away from their show knowing that they have seen a good performance.

“ I like knowing that people can walk away with the feeling that they have seen a good show, and I then know that I have done my job,” said Sanchez.

Their advice for buddy musicians looking to survive in the industry is to make sure all the members are as good as you, because you do not want to be held back. Also make sure no one has a bad attitude.  You should also keep girls out of band business, because they can cause problems.

“Don’t try to be someone else, be original,” Cheney Brannon said.

This band kicks some major heavy metal butt. These guys have an awesome stage presence. Once you see these, guys you will be amazed. So the next time they are in town, or in Florida go check them out. You will not be disappointed.

Their websites are www.thebandone.com and www.myspace.com/thebandone. stop by and check out their music.
