Dear
Editor,
I am
writing in response to Cody Flores’ article, “Truck size doesn’t make you
manly.”
It
disturbs me that someone like him is able to get an article like this
printed. I realize this was printed on the opinion page, but opinions
should not degrade certain people’s hobbies. It should not be narrowed to
anyone who hunts or modifies their automobile, and telling them that they
have a “small genitalia,” or that they are just trying “to hide the fact
that they are gay,” because we do it because we enjoy it, not so we can hide
the fact that we are supposedly “gay.” I personally enjoy working on and
modifying my automobiles, and I am not gay. It is just my hobby that I
enjoy doing. As far as I know, there are many people who enjoy this hobby,
including women. Have you ever heard of Danika Patrick? I don’t think she
is racing to become manlier. I also don’t hunt because I am “insecure” and
want to get my “jollies off.” I do it because wild game is some very good
meat. Have you ever grilled dove, or eaten deer jerky? Granted, there are
tree huggers that think what we do is inhumane, but some of us do it for
food, not because we are “insecure.” Maybe before this kid picks out his
next hobby to pick on, he should think, or can he? I see quite a few
vehicles that have been modified, and I don’t believe that these people
would appreciate it to know what this kid thinks about them. So maybe he
should use his head for something other than a hat rack, if he can. I know
that truck size doesn’t make you manly, but I don’t know that degrading
someone’s hobby does either.
Sincerely agitated,
Jerred
