Wanted: Considerate Non-Smokers
by Ray Buffington editor-in-chief
At any given moment in
one’s life, no matter what that person happened to be doing at that time,
one is suffocated with anti-smoking propaganda via commercials, posters, and
websites.
I am a
smoker and become annoyed after being berated for hours, but I can also
appreciate the integrity people have toward creating a cleaner world and
healthier lifestyle.
Chivalry Lost Should be Regained
by Jacob Tucker, feature editor
This topic came to light
for me a few weeks ago, when a friend of mine told me how another person had
treated her. I expected this person to be a female based on what my friend
had told me, but it turned out to be a guy. It shocked me to hear that this
guy yelled obscenities and told her to get out of the car before they
reached their destination. All of this happened because she informed him of
their non-existent status as a couple, even though he wanted them to be
together. What makes this story even better is that the guy has a
girlfriend.
Searching for the Meaning of Life
by Adam Guerra, staff writer
I was waiting for a strike
of genius to hit me, when I stumbled upon a very abstract question referring
to life, “ What does it all mean?”
Homophobic Nation Different Strokes for Different Folks
by Jonathan Seaborn, staff writer
We tell them who they can
or can’t marry, and love with no real reason why. Maybe the big strong men
are just mad because they can’t hate blacks anymore. Up until 30 or 40 years
ago, whites and blacks could not marry. So since that’s happening, the
“stupid white men” need something to hate and control. Well, I have news for
you buddy. Your not God, no matter how much you want to be. So stop the
hate.
Floundering with Faith Fish
by Margot Gonzales, entertainment
Oblivious to the cars
beside me most of the time, I have no strength to ignore that fish everyone
has. Whether it’s the plain fish, the faith fish, the Jesus fish, or the
Darwin fish, I can’t ignore it. A constant war at the birth of the
millennium, I am finding it hard to believe it is anywhere near over.
Tyrants and Tribulations in America
by Jessica Safavimehr, staff writer
Recently a high school
social studies teacher in Denver, Colorado compared President George W. Bush
to Adolf Hitler.
It Takes a Lot to Not Fight Back...
My Struggle with Being too Nice
by Amelia Gonzales, staff writer
She would tell me that I
shouldn’t put up with it, and that if anyone was ever going to hurt me I
should hurt him or her back. A couple more times of me coming home in tears
finally led to a big red hand print across the girl’s face. That handprint
of course was mine. What is weird about the whole incident was that I never
felt good about it. I always carried that regret with me every time I would
see her throughout high school.
Soulmate or Door Mat? Respect Yourself, Know the Difference
by Anjuli Blair, editor assistant
here have been such ups
and downs. One minute everything is perfect and I'm beginning to feel
content, and the next I find that I have to lock the passenger door just to
keep myself from jumping out of the car to get away from one of the most
difficult moments in my life. Things really do change in a matter of
minutes. And it just isn’t fair; I definitely didn't want it to be that
way.
My Life as a Fatherless Child
by Jennifer Conlee, co-news editor
Growing up without a father
is one of the toughest things for a girl. Growing up not even knowing your
father’s hair or eye color or his name, is even tougher. |
