'Premonition' script causes confusion

by Brittany Bradford, entertainment editor

I have a habit of relating every movie I see to my own life, and I don’t believe I am alone in this.

Movies affect me, and I leave looking at different parts of my life in a different way. I went to see the drama “Premonition,” staring, Saundra Bullock, and I left confused and disappointed but also changed by the story line.

Bullock plays a depressed housewife who learns that her husband was killed in a car accident the previous day but then wakes up the nest morning to find him alive and well at home. However, she wakes up the next day to a world in which he is still dead. The switching back and forth between scenes, days and situations left me just as disconnected and confused as the lead character.

You begin to dread the days that she wakes to him dead, but the discomfort leaves the days she wakes to him alive. I as I watched this movie, I related it to my life. I could not imagine losing a husband, much less the situation of him returning every other day.

She is also a mother of two girls who help connect the days and occurrences to one another, as well as help draw emotion. The two little girls also stand strong for their mother when it seems everyone else thinks she is crazy.

I feel there is a certain balance that should be achieved by every drama. You can allow so much tragedy, but you must balance it with hope as well. Also, in many movies like this, the plot usually doesn’t allow the audience to get attached to a character who will be killed later on.

“Premonition” is full of the tragic, ad then it all comes to a climax at the end. But what made me leave full of disappointment was the ending that came out of left field. It is a twist that I should have seen coming.

As bad as this movie was overall, I did leave with a new appreciation for those I love. As I sat by my boyfriend, I let this movie hit close to home.

I give a one and a half out five, because that’s the number of seconds during the movie that actually understood what was going on. See this film if you enjoyed “ Flight Plan” or any M. Night Shyamalan movie for the pure enjoyment of figuring it out. Otherwise, don’t. You will leave with a new fear or car wrecks and death.
