Murder, suicide attempts shock campus

As students were returning to classes after spring break, the echoing sounds of screams for help stunned many.

Ariel Walden, 20, of Lubbock, was being attacked by her alleged boyfriend Christopher Mills, 22, also of Lubbock.

Regents discuss promotions, name Fine Arts Building

The South Plains College Board of Regents discussed promotions, honored the Men’s track team, and agreed upon the new name for the Fine Arts Building during their March meeting.

 

The CH Foundation, which was established by the late Christime DeVitt, and the Helen Jones Foundation, founded by the late Helen DeVitt Jones, donated $500,000 each in private grants to support the Fine Arts Building. That makes a total of $1 million going toward the completion of the Fine Arts Building.

 

Groundbreaking held for Phase Two of Fine Arts Building expansion

A groundbreaking ceremony kicked off Phase Two of the expansion project that will add 12,500 square feet to the Fine Arts Building at South Plains College.

 

The ceremony was held March 29 at the easy entrance of the Fine Arts Building.

 

Rez-Week set for April 2-6

Many Christians consider the week before Easter as a "Holy Week".

 

It is the time during this week to remember what happened, according to their Christian beliefs and reflect on, the rise of the Messiah from the tomb.

 

Plainsman Press garners awards

The Plainsman Press staff recently competed at the annual Texas Intercollegiate Press Associate spring convention, bringing home five awards, including third place for Overall Excellence.

The convention was held on March 22-24 at the El Tropicano Riverwalk Hotel in San Antonio.  A total of 518 students representing 50 colleges and universities participated in the event.

Three SPC Students named TRIO Achievers

Three South Plains College Students were among those honored recently for their involvement with the South Plains area TRIO programs.

"All of the TRIO programs come together and we have presentations and an award ceremony," Upward Bound director Chris Riley said.  "And we bring recognition about TRIO to the community."
