Rez-Week set for April 2-6
by Isa Torres, staff writer
Many Christians consider the week before Easter as a “Holy
Week.”
It is the time during this week to
remember what happened, according to their Christian beliefs
and reflect on, the rise of the Messiah from the tomb.
“Rez Week has become an annual event in
SPC, sponsored by the BSM and The Wesley Foundation,” said
Arlano Funderburk, director of the Baptist Student
Ministries at SPC.
Free luncheons will be offered from
Monday through Thursday from 11:20 a.m. to 1:10 p.m. at the
BSM.
An on-campus Game Night will be held on Monday, beginning at
6 p.m. at the quadrangular. A worship service will be held
Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the BSM.
Funderburk said that the remembrance of Jesus’
resurrection, along with Christmas, is one of the most
important celebrations of Christian faith.
According to the Bible, Jesus is God, and he came to the
world in human form.
After 33 years, he was crucified. Three days later, he rose
from the tomb and ascended to heaven.
“We think this event is monumentally
important, because it is the express desire that all people
also experience resurrection,” said Funderburk.
Rez Week features activities organized
by both the BSM and The Wesley Foundation. Their goal is to
celebrate and announce what they call the “good news.”
“We feel like it is the best news
ever,” said Funderburk.
The resurrection of Jesus is considered
the victory of God against sin, according to Funderburk.
Christians believe this to be the greatest act of love.
“When mankind did its very worst and
crucified him, he did the very best and loved us,” added
Funderburk.
Funderburk said that this act of sacrifice is a display of
power and amazing love for us.
To Christians, the true joy comes not
from Jesus’ crucifixion, but from the power of God to come
back to life from death, and his mercy to share it with
humanity.
”It represents an opportunity for them to experience his
kind of life that never ends,” said Funderburk, “share his
kind of life, not just in length, but in quality.”
Throughout the week, The Wesley
Foundation and the BSM plan to invite everyone who is a part
of SPC to join them in such an important week for
Christians.
“We would like to invite students at
SPC to consider Christ’s invitation to experience his
resurrection,” said Funderburk.
”Man’s greatest enemy is death, and he has overcome death,”
he added. “He offers to help us overcome death as well.”
