Seals meet unjust fate

by Alex Everett, ad/graphics design editor

Man killing animals is nothing new.

Whether it was the Native Americans killing buffalo for survival in the past, or attaining a nice trophy to show how much of a man you can be by killing innocent, defenseless animals, men live to hunt.

We are all God's masterpieces

by Brittany Bradford, entertainment editor

As I walk the halls of the Louvre Museum in Paris, France, which is known to hold some of the most famous art work in the world, I see the works of Da Vinci, such as the Mona Lisa, and Michelangelo's masterpiece David.  As I pass each work of art, the beauty before me amazes me.  Then I come upon a very large and hard-to-recognize piece of art.  On the canvas are the images of every person I have ever made fun of, or looked down upon for whatever reason.

College broadens views on different political ideologies

by Jennifer Conlee, co-associate editor

It was two-and-a-half years ago when I picked up a pen and a ballot and put down my signature for George H.W. Bush to be re-elected as president for his second term.

I was still a senior in high school, still shaky on my political standings and barely 18.  My government class helped a little that year, but it wasn't until I reached college that I learned to cast my vote for someone other than who everyone else was voting for.

When enough becomes too much

by Sawyer Thomas, online editor

Suprisingly enough, there are times when I think that I might be too over the top for some.

My mannerisms and body language sometimes say way too much about me, and that despite ho hard I try, it is too hard for me to hide my true identity.

Imagination takes backseat to technology

by Amelia Gonzales, feature editor

:Losing imagination through a world of technology.

Imagination is something that is instilled in us as children.  It is something that leads us to believe there is more than what has been provided to us.  It gives us power to venture out, seeking and working for what many people call the impossible.

Reading about celebrities frivolous waste of time, money

by Jason Logan, staff writer

It might come as a surprise to you that three of the top 10 magazines in circulation revenue are celebrity news/gossip oriented.

But then again, it might not.  Until just recently, I thought everyone spent their mornings watching C-Span and when to sleep at night watching the History Channel.  I had no idea how much of a market there was for such low-rent media.  All I can say is, "Seriously, America?"

'Fab Five' now six feet under

by Sawyer Thomas, online editor

Despite the fun times that were had, and the parties that were thrown, I'm sad to say that the "Fab Five" is no more.

Though we remain friends, the close bond that was once shared is now shattered and broken.  Members make new friends and leave those of old behind, others get involved in relationships, and others get in way too much trouble.

Life lessons learned over Spring Break

by Shane Jester, staff writer

Spring break.  The term alone speaks to many college students as instant stress relief from school and the realities of life.

To many college students nationwide, as well as myself, it meant a whole week carefree of school and everything that comes with it.  It allowed all of us to get out of town and forget the ups and downs that this semester has already presented.

There's no place like home, unless its Lubbock

by Taylor Charters, editorial assistant

"I thought happiness was Lubbock, Texas in the rearview mirror."

After moving halfway across America following high school graduation, the only place that I wanted to go was home.  When you don't know anybody, Lubbock can be one very lonely place.

High School students not receiving attention needed

by Omar Ojeda, staff writer

During the past decade, violence in public high schools, colleges, and universities has escalated.

The more common acts of violence that are seen in high schools range from fist fights to shootings.  Every once in a while, there will be a breaking story about violence on a college or university campus, but it rarely happens.

Put faith in God, not self, to live fulfilling life

by Isa Torres, staff writer

I love my generation, even though sometimes feel out of place.  I feel that I am the only sane young adult left.  The "echo boom" generation- that's what other people are starting to call us.

We are the most narcissistic generation since the "baby boom" generation, the first generation raised with television.

Getting older means time for making life decisions nearer

by Hilary McNamara, opinion editor

When I turned 21, my brother told me, "Well, this is your last big birthday.  You have nothing to look forward to now except turning 50, and then you are over the hill."

Yes, I am sure all of you are thinking, "What a nice brother she has."  Trust me, you do not know the half of it.
