Life lessons learned over Spring Break
by Shane Jester, staff writer
Spring break. The term alone speaks to many college students
as instant stress relief from school and the realities of
life.
To many college students
nationwide, as well as myself, it meant a whole week
carefree of school and everything that comes with it. It
allowed all of us to get out of town and forget the ups and
downs that this semester has already presented.
Spring break
can serve as a mere tease to some, because it is just a
small sample of what the summer break will be like. If
anyone is like me, which I assume most are, I lived every
day of spring break like there was no tomorrow.
Many ventured
as far as South Padre Island, Ruidoso, N.M., Colorado, or
various other travel destinations that offer fun and
relaxation. For me, I spent my spring break at a friend’s
lake house in our beautiful state capital, Austin. The house
sat right on beautiful Lake Austin, and it allowed my
friends and I to forget about the real world and all the
normalities of Lubbock.
I realize that many were
unable to venture out of the “flatlands” for spring break
because of work, family, or other obligations. But
nonetheless, spring break allowed all of us to take a
much-needed breather from studying and the whole classroom
experience.
As I progress through my
college life, I realize that every experience that I go
through is just another life lesson that will allow me to
succeed later in my career. It’s funny to think that even
spring break can present us with valuable life lessons. But
even partying nonstop with friends for a whole week allows
you to step back and realize that these times will not last
forever.
One day we will all grow up
and enter the real world where even the thought of spring
break presents us with no satisfaction. It will be a sad day
in my life if I look back at my college “daze” and realize
that I did not take full advantage of all the experiences
that college offers us. Whether these experiences are life
lessons, or nights that you won’t remember with friends you
won’t forget, spring break 07’ was just a precursor of all
things to come.
