The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association recently announced that South Plains College Lady Texan standout Dominic Seals has been selected as the State Farm/WBCA Junior College/Community College Player of the Year.

The award is presented annually to the top players in NCAA Divisions I, II, III, NAIA, JC/CC, and high school

Seals, a 6-foot-1 post player from Dallas, also was named to the first team of the Western Junior College Athletic Conference All-Conference team and the All-Region V team after averaging 14.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game this season.  Seals led SPC to an unprecedented 27-game winning streak en route to a 31-2 record overall.

The SPC star scored in double figures in more than 20 games, and she had a season-high 25 points against Weatherford on March 10.  Seals who was also a member of the Kodak/WBCA All-American Team last year, will be attending Texas Tech next year as part of a top recruiting class for the Lady Raiders.  She joins Sheryl Swoopes as the only SPC Lady Texan players to win the Player of the Year Award.

“I truly feel like this was an accomplishment that was a testament to how hard and our team and I worked this year,” Seals said.  “I am extremely honored to be part of history in receiving this award.”

Seals and freshman Ashlee Roberson were also named to the Kodak/WBCA All-American team.  Seals who was named to the team for the second consecutive year, garnered a first-team spot, while Roberson was named to the honorable mention squad.

Roberson, a 5-foot-10 forward from San Antonio also received All-Conference and All Region after averaging 13.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per game in her first season as a Lady Texan.
