Seals selected as Player of the Year

The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association
recently announced that South Plains College Lady Texan
standout Dominic Seals has been selected as the State Farm/WBCA
Junior College/Community College Player of the Year.
The award is
presented annually to the top players in NCAA Divisions I,
II, III, NAIA, JC/CC, and high school
Seals, a 6-foot-1 post
player from Dallas, also was named to the first team of the
Western Junior College Athletic Conference All-Conference
team and the All-Region V team after averaging 14.3 points
and 8.3 rebounds per game this season. Seals led SPC to an
unprecedented 27-game winning streak en route to a 31-2
record overall.
The SPC star scored in
double figures in more than 20 games, and she had a
season-high 25 points against Weatherford on March 10.
Seals who was also a member of the Kodak/WBCA All-American
Team last year, will be attending Texas Tech next year as
part of a top recruiting class for the Lady Raiders. She
joins Sheryl Swoopes as the only SPC Lady Texan players to
win the Player of the Year Award.
“I truly feel like this was
an accomplishment that was a testament to how hard and our
team and I worked this year,” Seals said. “I am extremely
honored to be part of history in receiving this
award.”
Seals and
freshman Ashlee Roberson were also named to the Kodak/WBCA
All-American team. Seals who was named to the team for the
second consecutive year, garnered a first-team spot, while
Roberson was named to the honorable mention squad.
Roberson, a 5-foot-10
forward from San Antonio also received All-Conference and
All Region after averaging 13.2 points and 7.6 rebounds per
game in her first season as a Lady Texan.
