'Moldy Peaches' turn nursery rhymes into rock hits

by Sasha Malaeb, staff writer

The newly famous Indie duo from New York City plays childish, potty-mouthed, ndie rock music.

With the sound of a childhood nursery rhyme, and ragged, distasteful lyrics, Kimya Dawson and Adam Green put on a show with the clever nickname and title, “The Moldy Peaches.” Those who do not fancy toilet humor mixed with little fairytale rhymes probably wouldn’t be entertained by this duo of laughter and merry little tunes.

One of their first CDs, “Sanctuary”, which was released in 2001 is a mixture of 22 tracks, all being unpredictable, hilarious and sloppy.

“The Moldy Peaches” recently became popular in the eyes and ears of teenagers and young adults after being featured in the movie “Juno.” With the mixture of pop punk and acoustic talking, this duo creates rhyming words and phrases that don’t even make sense. You’re constantly surprised at what these two sing, or randomly yell along with.

With the lyrics of a vulgar man and story-time rhymes, Green and Dawson put together repetitive short songs that get stuck in your head all day long. The way the lyrics flow together smoothly is the complete opposite of their songs and rhymes.

With her career already on the rise, Dawson has become a very popular pop and acoustic artist this year. With her newest CD, “Remember That I Love You,” from 2006, it has become the warm and personable ring that’s got her fans dancing and having a good time with no worries.

Green, who created the album “Jacket of Fury” in 2006, gave his career a big giant boost when he and Dawson put together their unique tunes and made a booming album after another.

The adolescent tracks and gentle keyboard melodies from Green, and the happy-go-lucky rhythms from Dawson, combine to make one of the most fun, care-free albums of the year.

I give “The Moldy Peaches” a big thumbs up for the cheerful, child-like rhythm, and hilarious banter. This duo puts on entertaining live shows, and manages to create amazing records.

I predict they will get even bigger as the year goes on and people who become big-time fans will familiarize their music with their everyday lives. If you’re feeling overwhelmed and feeling down, this CD will boost up your emotion and will have you singing along and rolling on the floor with laughter.
