Student found murdered in Lubbock

Friends of South Plains College student Bradford McIver came
upon a scene of horror when they discovered him dead inside
his Lubbock apartment early on the evening of March 18.
A frantic 911 call was made by the
group of friends after they found McIver's body around 6:30
p.m. Authorities quickly arrived on scene at the Indiana
Village Apartments in the 700 block of North Indiana Avenue
where McIver, a native of Albany, was stabbed to death
inside of his apartment, no. 3123.
Bomb threat hoax disrupts campus

It seems as though the question of safety on school campuses
across the nation is a constant issue in today’s society.
However, no one ever expects for something tragic to hit
close to home.
On the morning of, March 11, South Plains College got a
scary wake-up call. A bomb threat was first called into the
Levelland Police Department at 9:06 a.m. A second call
followed at 9:35a.m.
Huckabee campaign makes stop in Hub

In front for a crowd of about 300 people, former Arkansas
Governor Mike Huckabee took to the stage outside the Silent
Wings Museum in Lubbock recently to rally votes and
supporters before they hit the polls on Super Tuesday.
He kicked off his campaign stop on February 29 by performing
with Lubbock's own Josh Abbot Band, when he played guitar to
songs by Johnny Cash and Tom Petty.
Regents discuss nursing grant

The new healthcare training grant, an update on the
emergency notification system and faculty promotions were
the main topics of discussions during the March meeting of
the South Plains College Board of Regents.
South
Plains College recently was awarded a $1.6 million grant
from the U.S. Department of Labor. SPC was one of two
colleges in Texas to receive the grant, and the only college
to receive a grant for healthcare.
'Go For It!' seminar offers access to education

Single parents and others with barriers that they think
limits their opportunity to attend college can get
information about how they may pursue their educational
desires by attending a seminar hosted by the Special
Services Office at the Reese Center Campus.
The 15th annual “Go For It” Seminar will be held
on April 1 from 6 p. m. to 8 p. m. in room 101 at the Byron
Martin Advanced Technology Center, 3201 Avenue Q in Lubbock.
Math Department to host star gazing event

South Plains College students will get
a chance to gaze at some heavenly bodies during a Star
Gazing on April 4.
Hosted by the Math and Engineering
Department at SPC, the event will be held at 7:30 p.m. on
the intramural soccer field on the south side of the
Levelland campus, weather permitting.
BBQ cook-off set for April 5

Faculty, staff and students at South Plains College, as well
as members of the Levelland community, are invited to the
Fourth Annual Taste of Texas BBQ Cook-Off.
The event,
sponsored by the Student Government Association at South
Plains College, will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on
April 5 of the square in downtown Levelland and will feature
live entertainment from the gazebo and fun for the whole
family, as well as some mouth-watering BBQ.
General Clark campaigns in Lubbock for Clinton

Cheers of support filled the campaign headquarters of
Hillary Clinton recently when General Wesley Clark walked in
the door. Clark traveled to Lubbock on
March 1 to show his support for Hillary Clinton for
president. He began his speech by describing of when he and
Clinton first met.
“We met at young ambassadors in France,
and she was a standout leader,” said Clark.
'Thursday Night Live' set for April 3

The next performance of “Thursday Night Live,” a 90-minute
musical variety production, is set for April 3.
Korean Grass will be the guest artist
for the show, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Tom T.
Hall Recording and Production Studio in the Creative Arts
Building on the Levelland Campus.
Forum scheduled for students interested in service academies

Students interested in attending a service academy can
attend a public forum being hosted by Congressman Randy
Neugebauer.
The forum is designed to inform
students of the various opportunities they have to apply to
a United States Service Academy.
