Texans capture first NJCAA Championship in school history

After a season that included plenty of ups and downs, the
South Plains College men’s basketball team is the National
Junior College Athletic Association champions.
The Texans captured their first
national title by defeating Salt Lake Community College
67-56 on March 22 at the Hutchinson Sports Arena in
Hutchinson, Kan.
Rockets running out of fuel after historic 22-game win
streak

On New Year’s Day, the Houston Rockets had 15 wins and 16
losses despite the strong play of Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady.
Currently
the Rockets are a sure lock to be a 50 win club with a
little over three weeks left in the regular season and
possession of the third playoff seed in the Western
Conference.

received honors for their outstanding play during the
2007-2008 season.
Sophomore post Brittany Blackmon
was named as the most valuable player in the Western Junior
College Athletic Conference.
Decisions, opinions could prove to be costly

Every once in a while, I get so heated up about various
sports issues that my need to express myself is greatly
constricted by my ability to get my thoughts to the public
that needs to read them. So, taking a
cue from some of my favorite sports writers, I’ve decided to
combine two of my opinions together to let my loyal readers
know what is really grinding my gears.
Lady Texans fall short of tournament expectations

For the third consecutive year, the Lady Texans advanced to
the NJCAA the Region 5 Tournament Championship game.
Unfortunately, SPC dropped the contest
to the Midland College Lady Chaps, 73-50, ending their
season with a 26-4 record overall.
Okorie excited about future basketball career

Nick Okorie finished last season as an honorable-mention
all-conference selection and one game short of a berth in
the NJCAA national tournament.
So, naturally, the stage was set for a
stellar season for the sophomore guard from Houston.

If the last couple of weeks in the NBA are any indication,
this year’s playoffs are definitely going to be one of the

Veteran players still valuable to baseball
