I Wish I Were Contagious ...

by Jacqui Streety, editor-in-chief

My boyfriend and I were eating dinner at a local restaurant a few Wednesdays ago. Of course, the heads went rolling when I walked in, and all eyes were on me, just as they always are in a public place. But that isn’t the point; I’m used to that.

Ignorant parents were socializing their children to be just as stupid by pointing and telling them to stare, because that’s such good manners to teach a child.

Weighing in on the value of life

I couldn’t imagine having to make the choice of whether someone I loved should live or not.

Tattooed, pierced, seeking employment in backward society

by Margot' Gonzales, staff writer

I’ve become restless with the turndowns and “we’ll call you.”  Applications have become more of an intimidation than they have a waste of time.

Yet, I continue to look for an opportunity to show my skills as an employee.  Will I ever be given that chance though?  How often is it that we get turned down for jobs because of tattoos and piercings?

Are children watching too much TV?

by Chelsea Goldston, staff writer

Do you ever remember your parents saying, “Turn that off” or “Change the channel, you don’t need to be watching that”?

Well, I did, and let me tell you, just because I didn’t watch the bad language on television does not mean I didn’t hear it.  I used to baby-sit a group of younger kids whose parents had a block system on their television so that the children could only watch certain programs.  I found it odd but never questioned why MTV was completely out of the question but cartoons a television series such as “Power Rangers”, where they show “cool” kids beating up the bad guys or boys kissing girls, was allowed.

Gas prices are ... Ridiculous!

by Codi Bullard, staff writer

As I was leaving 7-11 the other day, all I could think was, “did I really just pay $30.00 to fill up my tiny little car?”

And, I am lucky; I drive a small car that is “inexpensive” to fill up. Back in the day, it would only take around $17.00 to fill up. What is happening?

How old is too old to be dependent on your parents?

How old is to old to be dependent on your parents?

Hmmm…. that’s a question with endless possible answers.

Surgery not my idea of fun

by Jennifer Moore, staff writer

In recent weeks I have gained three holes in my stomach and five new staples, while I have one less appendix.

While this wasn't my idea of a fun weekend, what with surgery being among one of my biggest fears, it did get me to thinking about doctors and hospitals, and what a fun opinion piece that would be.
