With
the South Plains College Lady Texans winning their first WJCAC title since
2002 and a fourth place finish in the 2005 NJCAA National Tournament, it was
only a matter of time before the awards starting coming in.
Megan
Morris, a freshman post from Brownsville, was named the WJCAC Player of the
Year. Morris helped the Lady Texans finish 11-1 in conference play while
averaging 16.5 points a game and 8.4 rebounds per contest. She was also
named to the All-Region Team. Morris started 34 of 35 games for SPC.
Danielle Wilhelm, a sophomore from Wichita Falls, also was named to the
All-Conference team, after averaging 15.3 points and 7 rebounds per game.
The
Lady Texans had two freshmen receive honorable mention honors. Fallon Thomas
from Alamogordo, N.M, led the Lady Texans at the point guard spot while
starting all 35 games and averaging 4.9 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.0 assist
per game. Damesha Harris, a guard from Tahoka, also was recognize after she
started 34 of 35 games and averaged 12.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per
contest.
Also,
four Texans earned all-conference recognition as well. Julian Richardson, a
sophomore guard from Miami, Fla., received first-team, all-WJCAC honors.
Richardson started all 31 games for the Texans and averaged 8.1 points and
3.6 rebounds.
The
Texans also had three players garner honorable mention honors. Dennard
Abraham, a forward from Baltimore, Md., started 20 of 28 games and averaged
17.4 points and 7.7 rebounds per contest.
Also
receiving recognition were Leandro Bulboltz, a forward from Santa Cruz,
Brazil, who averaged 11.5 points a game and grabbed 5.9 rebounds per
contest, and Tiago Souza, a guard from Sao Paul, Brazil, who started 16 of
29 games and averaged 9.6 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.
