Four-Way Tie, Mr. Caprock Crowned

When combining frantic hunting, embarrassing acts of entertainment, and boys in dresses one is bound to have a good time.

South Plains College’s 2006 Spring Fling, which took place April 10-11, mixed all of these elements together and pitted the college’s organizations and clubs against one another in a competition of wits, stamina, and the questioning of one’s masculinity.

Those who competed were the Student Government Association, the STAR Center Organization, the Press Club, the Symphonic Band, the Black Student Organization, and the Ski Club.

The contest featured a scavenger hunt, a talent show, and a male-turned-female beauty pageant. Each club was awarded a number amount of points based on whether they placed first, second, or third, with the winning club receiving $50 for first place in the scavenger hunt and drag show, and $100 for the talent show.

The group with the most accumulated points at the end of the three contests was deemed “Overall Spring Fling Champion” and received an additional $200.

The SGA found all the items and answered all the questions the fastest for first place in the scavenger hunt. The Ski Club entertained the audience enough to nab first place in the talent show. And the Press Club presented “Princess Allure,” a Britney Spears listening-Christina Aguilera impersonating drag queen, for the Mr. Caprock Beauty Pageant who charmed the judges into giving her the crown and first place.

After all the points were tallied up, and all the make-up was peeled off the guys, the results produced a four-way tie between the SGA, the Ski Club, the Press Club, and the BSO.

The money, and the title, was evenly divided between all the winning organizations.
