Blue Devils Get Black Eye from Sex Scandal

 Giovanni Rosendo, associate editor

Controversy has risen at Duke University with recent allegations of rape swarming the men’s lacrosse team.

A Duke student working her way through college as a stripper got a call March 13 to dance at a party that she thought would include maybe five males.  She arrived with a colleague and hesitated when they saw that the party actually had more than 40 men there.  The student is a black woman and the men present were all white.

They entered the party and were bombarded with racial slurs and derogatory statements.

The women soon left, but were persuaded by some of the partygoers to return.

When they returned, some men shoved one of the women into the bathroom and began to gang rape the victim.

The victim explained in an interview that the reason she came forward with her story is because she doesn’t think that rape is a subject that gets taken seriously.  She is also concerned for her daughter.

The fact that she is a stripper does not mean that it is appropriate for her to be more susceptible to unwanted sexual advances.  Stripping and prostitution are completely different.
Some believe that the student indeed made a deal to perform sexual acts for the lacrosse team, but that is absurd.

This woman is obviously traumatized by the whole ordeal, has been to a doctor and is following through with her allegations.  If she were just trying to make money, I think blackmail would be more sufficient.

Nearly all of the 47 lacrosse members have been asked for DNA samples.  The one black member who has not been tested added that there were at least three white males who participated in the act.

Other reports have indicated that fraternity members also were present with the lacrosse members at the party.

I’m not entirely sure which is more appalling.

Rape is, without a doubt, a very serious topic that, though not reported as much; is one of the more serious crimes that are committed.

Racism is also an issue that has been pushed aside due to the mere acceptance of society.

The slap in the face, though, is that this all has occurred at the prestigious Duke University.

It’s about time these rich brats got what was coming to them.

I doubt that this is the first time there has been a case of rape on the Duke campus.  This time, they just got caught with their hands in the cookie jar, so to speak.

In more recent news, a player sent an e-mail that mentioned hiring some strippers and skinning them, the head coach has resigned and the season is cancelled.
