The Archers rock unique, creative sound

Mixing elements of hardcore, punk and screamo, Lubbock-based rocker The Archers look to the future of the music industry, hoping to hit it full-force.

The Archers consist of lead vocalist Aaron Reed, guitarist and back-up vocalist Mitchell Rambo, drummer Patrick Graf, guitarist Tommy Loewen and bassist Chase Myers.

'Shooter' aims to please thrill-seekers, Wahlberg fans

For all the thrill-seekers, “Shooter” is one move that will give quite an adrenaline rush.

“Shooter” is a movie about retired military marksman Bob Lee Swager, played by Mark Wahlberg, who the government contacts again to help stop an attack on the president. Wahlberg is not too happy with the government, because when he and his best friend went on a mission, he was left to die and not everyone made it out.

Local band chases new acoustic rhythm

Whether they’re playing in their hometown of Austin, or in one of the venues in Lubbock, Chasing Phoenix has garnered quite a following.

The band, which began three years ago, consists of Chase Dean Tutor on vocals and acoustic guitar, Kyle Ortiz on drums, Sean Pace on lead guitar and back-up vocals, and Joy Harris on bass.

Static-X leaves Odessa in shock

Self-described as “evil disco,” Los Angeles-based Static-X made their way through Texas recently.

The band made their way through Odessa on April 6 as part of a tour in support of their newest album, “Cannibal,” which was released April 3.

Annual 'Easter Bash' successful despite bad weather

Despite cool weather and snow on the ground, the 21st annual Easter Bash managed to rock at its new location at Jake’s Backroom, filling the afternoon and evening with the sounds of Lubbock musicians.

“This is Lubbock’s most legendary party,” said Easter Bash coordinator Chelsea Holloway, “and we never let anything stop it.”

California band delivers disappointing performance

It has become apparent that my generation seems to tilt toward the age of Math-Noise rock. For the most part that ship has sailed without me on board.

I recently went to see a band called Hella at Jake’s Backroom in Lubbock that has been labeled with the Math-Noise genre.

 

Dustin Garrett previews CD at TNL

Sporting their fiery, southern rock sound, Dustin Garrett and the Texas Cruisers performed recently at “Thursday Night Live.”

The band played many of the songs from their new album “We’re Here for the Music,” along with many other songs in their classic rock arsenal.

Muchosbackflips amusing the masses

I never thought I would be so intrigued yet so confused about music until now.

“The Reckit” is the newly-released album from Muchos Backflips, formerly known as WatermelonFastBass. Some of you may know that WatermelonfastBass recorded an album in 2001 called “Phobophobia,” which was recorded entirely at SPC’s Creative Arts Department.
