Open mind willing to give advice to those who need it

by Desiree Mendez, staff writer

I recently tried to start an advice column to help out my fellow students.

I have only received one letter, but nothing after that. So I was wondering why no one wants to write to me? Is it because some students might not want their problems shared with other students? I feel that I could give some helpful advice to those who are seeking it.

I find myself wanting to help students, but I can’t do this when I am not receiving letters. I don’t mind what you ask or what type of advice you need. I will answer you to the best of my abilities.

I know that a lot of stuff goes on at the SPC campus. I will do my best to help you with whatever you need. Whether it is advice on relationships, classes, changing a major or even if it doesn’t have to do anything with school, I will answer.  You don’t have to write to me for advice. You can ask me what concert to go to, or why I like to write. I don’t care what the topic is…I promise I will answer.  But try not to ask anything too personal.

I always keep an open mind when I read these letters. I will not be judgmental or mean. I feel that you should feel comfortable when writing to me.

Anything that gets written to me will be published in the paper, as long as you don’t mind. I will not turn you down if you want to write to me. Just because I pick a letter to go in the paper doesn’t mean that I won’t write back to you. I will still give you advice.

Maybe I was a little crazy taking on this task, but I thought it would be fun. There is nothing that I haven’t heard that will scare me away,  as long as you are not asking me how to commit a crime of some sort, because I will not be able to help you. So use reason when writing to me.

So here is my email address again: askdesiree@myway.com. I hope to receive more letters. It will be fun. I promise.

Rock on
