NFL player conduct under scrutiny

by Robert Box, staff writer

With the seemingly continuous outbreak of player misconduct in the NFL, commissioner Roger Goodell has unleashed a new player conduct policy.

There has been some 50 players and coaches arrested since the start of 2006.  The biggest issue may be concerning repeat offenses from players such as Tennessee cornerback Adam “Pacman” Jones and Cincinnati wide receiver Chris Henry, whose charges range from possession of marijuana to giving alcohol to minors.

Kobe won't top Mike anytime soon

During the past two years, NBA basketball fans have been treated to two very exciting regular seasons and playoffs.

We have seen 6-foot-3 Canadian point guard Steve Nash win two MVP awards and do things that many people haven’t seen since the days of Magic Johnson.  We also saw Dewayne Wade lead his Miami Heat team to the NBA championship with Michael Jordan-like performances against the Dallas Mavericks, who were the favorite to win the title last summer.  But none of these players can compare to the one player who forces us to ask, “Is he better than Jordan?”

It awards a true champion with a true championship and provides an unbiased opportunity to any team that can qualify for the tournament. In short, it is a testament to the heart and athleticism of college athletes.

NBA's integrity, image slowly slipping away

by Cody Barron, staff writer

During the past few seasons in the National Basketball Association, we have been treated to plenty of great players, teams and overall basketball action.

However, it’s the league’s sliding image that has many fans turning the dial.  The NBA has been great for many reasons.  We have witnessed the Dallas Mavericks climb from being one of the worst franchises in the league’s history to being one of the NBA’s elite teams.  We got to see Michael Jordan, widely believed to be the greatest player ever to play the game, hang up the sneakers and slide into retirement.  So overall, we have been pretty fortunate when it comes to the moments and events we are able to witness.  But it seems that in the past few years, the NBA has gained a strong reputation for being way out of line, behavior-wise.
