Dr. Kelvin Sharp has great expectations for his new role as South Plains College’s fourth president.

On Nov. 11, the South Plains College Board of Regents voted unanimously to name Dr. Sharp to the college’s presidency during the monthly meeting following the announcement of the resignation of Dr. Gary D. McDaniel, and he took office immediately.

After ten years at South Plains College, Dr. Gary Dean McDaniel has stepped down as our president.

“Serving as president at South Plains College has been the high point of my career,” McDaniel told his board of regents. “But Kay (McDaniel’s wife) and I believe this is a good time to end my professional career and devote my time to our children, grandchildren, and God’s purpose for our lives.”

Darrell Grimes, dean of instruction at South Plains College, recently was promoted to vice president for academic affairs.

Grimes succeeds Dr. Kelvin Sharp, who was named on Nov. 11 to be SPC's next president, after Dr. Gary D. McDaniel, president of SPC for the past 11 years, announced his retirement

The Texas Business and Technology Educators Association recently named Dianne Bridges, a professor of office technology at South Plains College, as Region 17 Post-Secondary Teacher of the Year.

“It is an honor to be recognized by your peers,” Bridges said.

Early registration for current South Plains College students and new students began on Nov. 8 and will last until Jan. 5.

For the upcoming spring semester, 3,577 students have already enrolled in classes. So you know that means, classes are already filling up and some classes have already been filled and closed.

Not too many people in today’s society strive to make other people’s days a little brighter. But sometimes there are those individuals who to strive for other people’s happiness by devoting their own time to help the needy.
