Help yourself while helping others

A couple of months ago I moved into a new apartment. The great thing about moving is that you will find things you did not even remember having.

Let me ask you, when was the last time you took a closer look at your closet? I do not want to offend you in any way, I was just wondering. Well, we all have some “skeletons” in our closets. If you would look through your drawers, would there not be some pieces that have not seen daylight in quiet a while?

How many of your shirts and sweaters are hidden somewhere in a box which is labeled ‘Not worn since 1998’? You probably have some shirts you bought years ago and do not like anymore. Or that pullover grandma gave you three months ago and you have not even tried on. There might also be a couple of pairs of jeans that fit so perfectly the summer before your high school graduation. Well, there is no need to leave them in your closet any longer. Among those pants that do not fit anymore and shirts that are out of style are probably some pieces that are perfect for donation.

Therefore, set the paper aside for now and grab a plastic bag to put those clothes into. There are quite a few places that will be very thankful for any donation you can make. The Salvation Army, the Red Cross, and Goodwill Industries are among those organizations.

Oh, and doing something good while cleaning out your closet can be very rewarding.

In case you do not want to get rid of your old clothes, how about volunteering for a social service? Your local church will most likely have an annual holiday special. Just ask, and your help will be appreciated as well as needed. You could help with the preparation of a Christmas dinner, for example.

It is always a bit awkward to see that people are more likely to do good things during the holidays rather than during the rest of the year. For me, this just means that my little article actually has the chance of being successful in getting you off your behind and donating pullovers, right?

Do not let procrastination keep you from doing your good deed. As my grandma always says: “It’s better now than never.” And she is absolutely right about this.
