Dining on a Dollar with Ray...

by Ray Buffington, entertainment editor

Pizza, pizza, everywhere and not a slice to eat. At least, not one that’s affordable for the average college student.

According to Pizzaware.com, the pizza business is a $32 billion plus per year industry.

There are approximately 61,269 pizzerias in the U.S., about 100 acres of pizza is eaten each day, and roughly 350 slices are eaten per second. That’s alotta pizza.

The entrepreneurs of this cheese-on-bread creation are making buckos of bucks for a reason - the price of the slice. Any kind of big-time chain pizza restaurant can be pricy, charging anywhere from $11 to $15, depending on the number of toppings desired, for a small pizza.

by Jennifer Moore, staff writer

Fans of the Frank Miller comic series "Sin City" are sure to enjoy the recently-released movie, which is directed by Miller, Robert Rodriguez and special guest director Quentin Tarantino.

The plot follows three main storylines: a story about soon-to-retire police officer Hartigan (Bruce Willis) who is framed for a crime he did not commit; a story about Dwight (Clive Owen), an ex-photographer who kills a prominent police officer in Sin City and has to hide the body; and the story of Marv (Mickey Rourke), a tough-as-nails street thug who is trying to find the person that killed Goldie (Jaime King), a prostitute who was murdered while she slept beside him.

Cross Canadian Ragweed brings Texas Revolution to Lubbock

by Devin Goettsch, staff writer

In just eight short years Cross Canadian Ragweed has grown from recording and producing their first record “Carney” in May 1998, to “Soul Gravy” in March 2004, which was produced by Universal South Records.

Cross Canadian started as childhood friends in Stillwater OK, and throughout the years the Texas Country forerunner helped bring about a sort of “Texas Music Revolution.” Cody Canada’s raw song lyrics caused Tim DuBois of Universal South to name Cross Canadian as the lead horse of the movement.  “They said, when we come in, we don’t want to change a thing about you, which tickled us, because that’s what we wanted,” said Cody Canada, lead vocals and guitar.   And sure enough, Cross Canadian’s major label debut, was the exact same album that they had wrapped up before ever signing their deal.

Sci-fi, comedy and re-makes top the list of this year’s summer blockbusters.

Kicking off the summer is the long-anticipated saga conclusion, “STAR WARS Episode III- Revenge of the Sith.”  This last installment to the prequel trilogy, and the entire series, should shed a little light on the questions of many fans.

“Episode III” is centered around Anakin Skywalker and his journey to the Dark Side of the Force.

Since their latest release “Maladroit,” Weezer fans have been patiently waiting for a follow-up as memorable as the Blue Album.

On March 29, Weezer released their newest single “Beverly Hills.”  The video stars Hugh Heffner and a couple of Playboy bunnies chilling in the Playboy mansion, proving again that this band is the definition of class.

Matador Records grabbing bull by the horns

by Jessica Safavimehr

While browsing the shelves of Hastings records and tapes in Lubbock recently, I came upon a Matador Records compilation. I immediately bought it, unraveled the shrink-wrap, and threw it in my cd player. This Matador Compilation was compiled during the span of six years and 20-plus bands. Not only does this compilation come with previously unreleased tracks, a DVD is hidden inside with videos from some of Matadors most talented artists.
