Watkins teaches students the importance of art

Suggested Headline: Watkins teaches students the importance of art Lynette Watkins sees art as a direct portal into the human soul.

Watkins, assistant professor of art at South Plains College, earned her associate of arts degree in commercial art from SPC.  She then moved on to get a bachelor of arts degree from Ft. Lewis College in Durango Colorado.  She got her master of arts degree in interdisciplinary studies from Texas Tech University.

Watkins has dedicated 18 years to teaching students, including 16 of those years spent teaching at SPC.  Though Watkins said that she had taught every two-dimensional art classes the college offers, she said that she currently teaches watercolor, photography and foundations in art classes.

From Levelland to Hollywood ...

Former SPC student chasing her dream in Tinsel Town

Kinna McInroe is a small fish in a big ocean called Hollywood.

McInroe is currently in California pursuing her life-long dream, to become a successful actress. 

“I was a weird kid,” said McInroe.  “I was always doing my own thing and trying hard to make everyone laugh.”

McInroe, former SPC student who grew up in Levelland, said she always watched the women of comedy on TV.  She recalls idolizing actresses such as Carol Burnett, Lily Tomlin, Kathy Bates and Sally Field.
