The South Plains College’s Student Government Association returned to the campus with three awards they received at the Texas Student Government Association Convention in Austin.

The SGA team ran and won to host next year’s SGA convention in Fort Worth. They also received the award for the most delegates attending the event out of 52 schools, and received third place in song writing out of 23 schools.

“ The SGA SPC State Convention ran for host, was elected, and will be hosting at Fort Worth,” said Weatherred. “ They did a very good job.”

The students that attended were: Carrie Rucker, president; Megan Moore, vice president; Brice Pool, treasurer; John Duncan, parliamentarian; Scott Stephenson, senate majority leader; Ashlei Clark, historian; David Moore and Audra Kennemer, freshmen senators; Amanda Marquez, Myka Collins, Chad Moron and Keva Garner, sophomore senators; Victor Portillo, Jessica Stevens and Stan Weatherred, advisor, director of student activities.

The SGA trip to Austin, held April 14-17, was funded by proceeds from the first Taste of Texas Barbecue Cook-Off, which raised $2,200. The event was a success that attracted six barbecue teams and about 400 people.
