Homosexuals: Do They Hold The Key To The Kingdom Of God?

by Jacqui Streety, editor-in-chief

In the hustle and bustle of stereotypes in West Texas, the question of whether or not a homosexual can be identified as Christian has not been a topic of debate. Rather, these Bible-thumpers have jumped on a bandwagon of conclusion, and their answer is not just “no,” but “hell no.”

Well, I have other thoughts on that. Having quite a few very close friends in the homosexual community has led me to examine the Bible more thoroughly, in order to come up with an answer to this perplexing question.

Goodbye, Good riddance, So long, Adios SPC...I'm out

by Jacqui Streety, editor-in-chief

Well, I have spent the last four years of my life as what many thought would be a “permanent resident” of SPC. Yep, my first two years were the typical party years of “college life.” There was nothing like showing up to a government class still drunk from the previous night.

But I suppose all that changed when I found psychology professor Dr. Ginny Mahan. She straightened me out with a little encouragement and continuing belief in me in all the endeavors that I’ve taken on. So, I must begin this article and long list of thank you’s by thanking Mahan and her husband, Dan English.

Four majors and four years later, I have decided to continue at Tech as sociology major and hopefully, I’ll be a professor some day.

Two years ago, I changed my major to Journalism. I walked into the newsroom of the Plainsman Press, where I met with advisor Charlie Ehrenfeld. I freaked him out, I think. It was his first week or so on campus and when I walked in told him that I wanted to be editor, he thought I was joking. Well, with the tattoos and piercings and whatever color my hair was at that time, he couldn’t have possibly taken me seriously. Little did he know—one year later, I would be the editor of this fine publication.

Hooked on 'homo' Stereotypes are not for me

by Ray Buffington IV, entertainment editor

When people hear the word “gay”, they either cringe in fear and disgust or an image in their head of an effeminate man who dresses trendy, styles hair for a living, and runs around yelling “You go girl!”.

This image, while sometimes true, creates a stereotype and does not describe the gay society as a whole.

Life of ... Churchianity

by Trey Fuentes, staff writer

What is the life of Christianity all about?  Also, what is it about Christianity that drives such a love and the passion inside of those who choose to set aside their typical self-desiring lives?

Dr. Phil and the cheating epidemic

by Jessica Safavimehr, staff writer

Recently, Dr. Phil had show in which he talked to a teacher about the new high-tech ways of cheating.

Jan Bunten, the teacher, she said first became aware of the new ways of cheating when a student came up to her after a test and openly admitted that some classmates had used their cell phones in assisting them with the test. The students were taking pictures of the test and sending them to their friends so that they might be able to help them figure out the problem. One student approached the teacher and expected her to laugh. Instead, she took disciplinary action with the students involved.

Much ado about Democracy

by Chris Byram, staff writer

I vaguely recall a time when individuals used to have some sort of importance in the world. They used to do something.

Instead of visionaries and heroes, I only see a rather large herd of people sitting back and allowing their lives to fall into a quagmire of soulless materialism and propaganda. The world has developed a deep, insatiable hunger for all things western –those things, once boiled down to show their true form, are really nothing except shiny, uncomfortable things. Dead things.

New pope not my choice

by Giovanni Rosendo, staff writer

When I was 14, I went on a trip overseas, stopped by Vatican City and was blessed by Pope John Paul II.

Contrary to popular belief, I was born and raised a full-fledged Roman Catholic.  I love my church and am willing to support someone in time of need.

But Benedict?  I’m sorry, the only Benedict I approve of is my egg.

Time to de-stress before final exams

by Codi Bullard, staff writer

The weather is nice; you are sitting on a boat in the lake or on a raft in the pool, relaxing and enjoying the sun. Reality check! No way do you have time for “fun in the sun” this time of year.
