Moviegoers Go 'Wild' Over New Disney Flick

Stephanie Perez, staff writer

“The Wild” is the latest computer generated film from Disney and Pixar. When I first saw a preview for “The Wild,” I thought that it was another “Madagascar.” But after viewing the movie, I was proven wrong. Like “Madagascar,” “The Wild” takes place at the New York City Zoo and has a lion as the main character. “The Wild” is about Samson the wild, voiced by Keifer Southerland, the lion of the zoo, who is always telling the other animals about how great the wild was and how he never wants to go back. Well, Samson has a son Ryan, voiced by Greg Cipes, who is a little cub who hasn’t found his roar yet. Ryan tries and tries, but all that ever comes out is a kitten-like growl. Ryan gets really upset because every time he growls everyone around him laughs at him. So Ryan wants to go to the wild so that he can find his roar. He finds the chance to do it by getting inside some green storage containers that can take him to the wild. So Ryan goes inside one of the containers but is rudely surprised when the containers’ doors close and he is trapped.

He realizes that he really doesn’t want to go to the wild, so he’s a little frantic. Samson hears his son yelling and gets ready to find a way to get to him before he gets taken away on the big boat. He gets the help from his friends, including a squirrel Benny, voiced by James Belushi; a giraffe, Bridget, voiced by Janeane Garofalo; a ditsy snake, Larry, voiced by Richard Kind; and a disgruntle kola bear, Nigel, voiced by Eddie Izzard.

They hit the streets of New York trying to get to the green lady with the spikes, better known as the Statue of Liberty. On their way, Samson’s friends begin to notice something strange but I don’t want to give away a big part of the movie. When they finally reach the “wild,” Samson and his friends notice that the green containers are actually a rescue mission for animals, because their island has an erupting volcano.

As they are trying to find Ryan, the friends get captured by a group of crazy wildebeests who are looking for a lion to eat so that they can be at the top of the food chain. The wildebeests are led by an insane wildebeest, Kazar, voiced by William Shatner. Kazar thinks that Nigel is a god, because a few years earlier he found a doll of Nigel that’s from the zoo. I could tell you the rest, but then you wouldn’t have to go and see “The Wild.” Like all Disney-Pixar movies this is aimed at kids, but I think that adults would enjoy it a whole lot more than kids, because the storyline really isn’t kid oriented.

It’s the type of film that makes you appreciate your dad, like “Finding Nemo” did. That’s basically the moral of the story, for parents not to lie to their kids, because when they do, their kids will rebel against them.

I would highly recommend that everyone watch “The

Wild” because you will be very entertained. This is a great film that isn’t corny or cheesy. It’s really good, and it has a very good message in it. It also features music from Coldplay, so you know that is a huge plus.
