Heard ending 22-year career at SPC

For 22 years Renae Heard has called South Plains College her
second home and she has come to decision to retire this
year.
Heard grew up in Levelland and was
married right before she graduated high school and finished
with her GED. Heard was no stranger to the work force
before coming to SPC. She has worked in a lot of different
areas including an insurance company, the grad school at
Texas Tech, and the Texas Women’s University. SPC was good
fit for her after having instructional experience.
“I’ve enjoyed working here and I
enjoyed doing whatever it took to my job. Helping any
student South Plains College is the greatest place to work
in the world and it has been a pleasure to do so, I was a
privilege to work in such a place. “
Heard first worked in the counsoler
offce under Dr. Marvin Baker. She also worked as She mved
to the presidents office in 1994 with Dr.Mcdaminel until
Dr. Kelvin Sharp became president. She has been a
secretary in the Presidents office for about 13 years.
“I’m going to travel with my husband
and whatever else I want to do,” said Mrs. Heard, “be with
my grandchildren, play more, and do less work” said Heard.
Heard expressed her feelings about
leaving SPC. She says she will miss everyone especially the
Regents. The Bored of Regents gave her a retirement gift
after their April meeting.
“You know it’s not the buildings it’s
the people who work here and they are lovely people.” Said
Heard.
Many of the faculty members that have
worked closely with Heard have expressed their feeling s of
losing such a great co worker.
“I’m happy for her and she will be
missed.”
Dewbre also described her as very
detailed, caring, and she takes pride in what she does.
“She knows a lot about the history of
the college an the way things are done, “ said Dewbre, “she
help me learn a lot.”
Heard has two children, Susan
Pendagrass teaches 5th grade with Withherral with
her children Ryan who is 13 and Brooke who is 11. Her son
Jerri Don Heard is a Civil Engineer with a degree from SPC,
TTU, and Masters from A&M. He lives in Sanger, TX with his
two children Jake who is 20 and his daughter Logan 11.
