Texans capture team title at ASU meet

The South Plains College men's
track and field team placed first overall at the 36th Annual
David Noble Relays at Angelo State University recently.
The SPC men finished first with 144
points, while Angelo State placed second with 91 points and
Abilene Christian University was third with 75.66 points at
the competition, was held April 14.
The Texans posted six first-place
finishes. Placing first in the 800-meter run with a time of
1:52.15 was Chris Jones. John Kosgei finished first in the
men's 1,500-meter run in a time of 3:47.43, and Patrick Lee
was first in the men's 110-meter hurdles in 14.21 seconds.
Also finishing first for SPC was Marlon
Smith with a leap of 6 feet, 9 3/4 inches in the high jump.
Aaron Smith III placed first in the long jump at 24 feet,
10 1/2 inches and Derrick Reescano placed first in the
triple jump with a leap of 50 feet, 7 1/2 inches.
In the men's 4x400-meter relay, the
Texan team of Jones, Sammie Ivory IV, Joshua Katam and
Harold Jackson placed second with a time of 3:14.80.
In the high jump, Darrell Roddick and
Kendrick Poullard tied for second place, each clearing 6-6,
and Dalton Atkins placed seventh at 6-2. In the men's long
jump, Reescano placed second with a leap of 24-10, and
Marlon Smith placed third at 24-1.
Roddick also placed second in the men's
triple jump with a leap of 49-8 1/4, Aaron Smith III was
fourth at 49-1/4, O'Brian Coles was fifth with a jump of
48-6 and Poullard finished 12th at 44-9 ¾.
In the men's 100-meter dash, Andre
Salmon placed third with a time of 10.70, and Aaron Smith
III was fourth in 10.73. Also, in the 800-meter run, Ivory
finished third with a time of 1:54.64, Jackson was fourth in
1:54.73, Jay Wilson placed 17th with a time of 1:59.72 and
Joshua Katam was 22nd in 2:03.63. Additionally, in the men's
decathlon, Derrick Taylor placed third with 6,461 points.
In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase,
Chase Wade placed fourth with a time of 10:32.68. In the
5,000-meter run, Joshpat Melly placed fourth in 15:28.03,
T.K. Revis was eighth with a time of 15:56.76 and Wade was
17th in 16:57.29. Also, in the men's hammer throw, Chris
Johnson placed fourth with a toss of 162-3.
The Lady Texans placed third at the
relays with 72 points. They were behind Angelo State, who
placed first with 155 points, and second-place Texas State
who was second with 73. Dominique Jacobs was on of only two
first-place finishes for the Lady Texans, winning the
women's long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 5 1/4 inches.
Danete Wright placed first in the
100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.21 seconds. Wright also
placed third in the women’s heptathlon with 4,685 points,
and she placed sixth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of
1:05.32.
In the 100-meter dash, Renee Shepard
placed third with a time of 11.96, Karen Thomas was sixth in
12.27 and October Wells placed seventh in 12.32.
In the women's 4x400-meter relay,
Stephanie Simpson, Crystal Wilson, Daniela Esquivel and
Fernanda Esquivel combined for a fourth-place finish with a
time of 3:58.61.
In the women's long jump, Asiya
Iskakova finished fourth with a leap of 18-1/2, and Jessica
Hodge finished 12th in the women’s 3,000-meter run with a
time of 11:46.63.
Lillian Badaru placed second in the
1,500-meter run with a time of 4:42.41. Also, in the women's
triple jump, Iskakova placed in second with a leap of
40-3/4, and Jacobs placed third at 40-1/2.
