Season ends on high note for rodeo team

The South Plains College rodeo
team wrapped up the 2007 season on a good note with strong
showings at their final two rodeos of the season.
SPC went on the road to Stephenville on
April 19-21 to compete in the Tarleton State University
Rodeo. The SPC women placed fourth overall, while the men’s
team finished 10th.
SPC’s best individual finish of the day
came when Jeremy Krywcun finished with a time of 11.0
seconds to place second in steer wrestling after clocking
times of 5.2 seconds in the first round and 5.8 seconds in
the short round. Also, Chance Butterfield’s time of 11.6
seconds was good enough for fifth place in steer wrestling.
Butterfield had a time of 5.8 seconds in the first and short
rounds.
Kelsi Arnold placed third in the goat
tying competition. Arnold finished with a total time of
18.0 seconds after a time of 8.3 seconds in the first round
and 9.7 seconds in the short round. Cheyenne White’s time
of 19.0 seconds was good enough for sixth in goat tying as
well.
Scot McIlroy placed third in tie-down
roping with a time of 21.3 seconds. McIlroy had times of
10.8 seconds and 10.5 seconds in the first and short rounds,
respectively. Caleb Clifton also competed in tie-down
roping with a time of 10.2 seconds in the first round and no
time in the short round. Ross Scully and Matt Switzer
competed in the team roping competition, where they received
a time of 7.1 seconds the first round and no time in the
short round. On April 12-April 14, the SPC rodeo team
traveled to Big Spring to compete in the Howard College/SPC
Rodeo. SPC’s best finish came when Erik Dublanko placed
second in the tie-down roping competition. Dublanko clocked
times of 11.3 seconds in the first round and 10.8 seconds in
the second round for a total time of 22.1 seconds.
