Regents informed of no tuition increase

With the rise of groceries, gas, and mortgage rates, one
thing remains the same.
South Plains
College will not be increasing tuition for the next year.
McCain makes campaign stop in Lubbock

Presidential nominee John McCain stopped in Lubbock recently
to rally Republican supporters by touching on topics from
wind energy to the current war in Iraq.
Senator McCain took the stage April 11
to speak to a crowd of more than a 1,000 anxious supporters
at the Aero Care Center.
Gerstenberger to receive honorary degree from SPC

Thousands of students pass through the halls of South Plains
College on their path to success, and one man will be
recognized during this 50th anniversary year as a
major contributor in paving that path and building an
institution dedicated to those students.
SPC to recognize distinguished alumni

South Plains College will be honoring five distinguished alumni who
began at this college with only their dreams and have turned
them into realities.
The five alumni who will be recognized were chosen by 17
members of a selection committee that included instructional
deans and senior faculty. They received 21 nominations via
forms available on the website and e-mails. The college also
had an article in “Mosaics” Magazine discussing the
nomination process, and forms were mailed to retired
faculty.
Poffenbarger selected as new English Chair

The end of this semester brings new beginnings for South
Plains College professor Gary C. Poffenbarger.
Earlier in the spring semester, Dr.
Mike Felker announced that he was stepping down as
chairperson of the English Department, leaving the position
open for anyone to apply.
50th Annual Commencement Ceremony set for May 9

The 50th Annual Commencement Ceremony will be
held May 9 at Texan Dome.
Students who are participating are
asked to meet in the Physical Education Complex no later
than 9:15 a.m. The ceremony begins at 10 a.m.
Choir to perform April 29

South Plains College’s Concert Choir is scheduled to perform
on April 29 in the Fine Arts Recital Hall, located on the
Levelland campus.
The program is under the direction of
Ruby Moultrie, assistant professor of music, who will be
accompanied by Dr. Hye- Gyung Ji, instructor of piano.
Blood drive set at Reese Center April 29

A blood drive will be held April 29 at South Plains
College’s Reese Center campus.
The drive is set for 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
in the west parking lot of Building One. United Blood
Services of Lubbock has set a goal of 11 appointments.
Currently only five appointments have been made.
Students to travel to Mexico on mission trip

For more than 30 years, the Baptist Student Ministries has
been organizing mission trips to Juarez, Mexico.
Although this year they are organizing
a new one, it seems that the trip will be different from
others previously.
Week-long festival offers musical variety

The Creative Arts Department will be presenting “Fest Week”,
a five-night festival featuring different types of music.
The festival will feature performances
by the Commercial Music ensembles and technical crews in the
Tom T. Hall Recording and Production Studio in the Creative
Arts Building.
