SPC Regents discuss enrollment, construction at September meeting

Campus construction and fall enrollment were the main topics of discussion during the September meeting of the South Plains College Board of Regents.


 


At South Plains College, a commitment to students is drawing quite a crowd.
 

While enrollment for the fall semester has declined at Texas Tech University, SPC has set yet another annual record.

 

During the International Phi Theta Kappa Convention in Minnesota in April Gary Poffenbarger, was pleasantly surprised when he received the Continued Excellence Award for Advisors.


Poffenbarger, associate professor of English at South Plains College has been PTK advisor for seven years and was not expecting to be chosen this year for the award.


The student government at SP College has a new president, her name is Carrie Rucker.

 

 

The time has once again come for the annual South Plains College Operation Identification or ID.

 

 

South Plains College teamed up with Warren CAT, a self-sufficient Caterpillar dealer, and Agco Crop, the builder of Caterpillar products, to provide a new optional two-year diesel service technology course.

Transfer workshops set for October 13

For those students interested in transferring to Texas Tech University in the future, there will be representatives from the Texas Tech Transfer Admissions office on SPC’s Levelland campus in the Counseling Center throughout the semester to answer any questions that prospective transfer students may have.

 

New distance learning Spanish classroom at Reese

South Plains College and the Rolling Plains Educational Technology Consortium recently dedicated a new distance-learning classroom at the Reese Center campus.


The new interactive television classroom is outfitted to televise Spanish courses to high school students in seven school districts in the Consortium.

Construction on Levelland campus...Buildings being expanded to accommodate more students

This semester brought record numbers of students to South Plains College and with that more room to accommodate the growing number of students.

 

Uncle Sam wants you....to register to vote

On Tuesday, Sept. 21 and Thursday, Sept. 23 there will be a voters’ registration drive in the Student Center from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. There will be a table set up at which students will be able to complete a voters’ registration card and receive instructions for returning it, and any assistance needed with the process of becoming a registered voter.
