2005 NFL Season Will Be Full of Surprises

by Joe Gonzales, sports editor

It’s finally here. You know what I am talking about. It’s that time of the year. It’s the time that some girlfriends despise, most wives hate and us guys just absolutely love. It’s time for football. I am talking about NFL football.

Goodbye NFL, Hello Canton...

by Jarred Owens, staff writer

Almost two weeks ago, the greatest wide receiver of all time, Jerry Rice, retired

from the National Football league.

For 20 seasons, fans marveled at Rice’s constant effort to be the best. Rice’s work ethic,

which was second to none, was known throughout the league and the nation among

football fans. He was always the first to show and the last one to leave.

Rice was the constant professional. For whatever reason, be it talent, systems that he

played in, his ability to push himself to another level beyond his colleagues, or all of the above, Rice is without a doubt the best receiver of all time. Period. This is gospel. His numbers speak volumes. The only issue left to consider and question to be analyzed is whether or not he is the greatest football player of all time?

Fantasy Football Fever; Catch It

by Ryan Rigdon, staff writer

Ok, the time is finally here.  After waiting for what seems like an eternity, football fans can finally get back to their favorite recliners and their beverage of choice while watching and waiting to see whether the players they started will outperform their opponents.

Yes, that is right, the players they started.  Fantasy football has exploded onto the scene as a football fan’s wildest dreams come true.  With the ability to have complete control from draft day to the playoffs, fantasy football offers it all.

Wyatt Looks to Continue Winning Ways at SPC

by Ryan, Rigdon, staff writer

It looks like another exciting year of basketball for the South Plains College Lady Texans.  Just ask new Head Coach Michelle Wyatt.

As a former college basketball player at Abilene Christian University and Wayland Baptist University, she brings to the court a wealth of knowledge and experience.  After graduating from Wayland, she went on to earn a master of science degree at Texas Christian University.  She later served as an assistant coach at Hutchinson Community College for a year and then returned to Wayland Baptist to coach there for four years.

Hierholzer Named New Assistant Track Coach

by Jarred Owens, staff writer

The South Plains College track team may have taken a loss this summer but regained its stride after hiring 26-year-old, Kyle Hierholzer.

The SPC track team sustained a loss this summer as former assistant coach Ken Howell took a position coaching track at Liberty University in Virginia. This loss left a vacancy which had to be filled, but the addition could return huge dividends for the Texans in the near future.
