Swimming with students: Harrison enjoys life beyond water's edge

When students come to pursue an education at South Plains College, they are usually required to take two physical education activity courses to receive their associate’s degree.  Many students automatically enroll in classes such as basketball, volleyball, track, or other sports that they became familiar with in high school.

 

Safety urged to curd rise of motorcycle fatalities

It has been a very common thing in the past two months to turn on the television and hear about another motorcycle accident on the streets of Lubbock.

A study done by the American Medical Association in 2005 showed how motorcycle fatalities increased from 2,116 in 1997 to 3,592 in 2003. This is a stunning increase, according to Sergeant Doug Triplett of the Lubbock Police Department, who is also a long time motorcycle enthusiast. 

Running toward success Bacia comes to Texas to achieve dreams

When Happy Mary Bacia first knew that she was coming to Texas, her first thought was, “I’m going to where George Bush lives.”

Bacia, 21, was born and raised in Uganda, in Africa.  She came to South Plains College last fall.

Dumpster to Diploma: Liz Murray shares struggles to succeed

Standing center stage while giving success speeches all across the globe is something Liz Murray never envisioned doing.

Murray was Texas Tech University’s convocation keynote speaker on Aug. 29 at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock. The struggles of her life and her own effort to defy all odds have labeled her as the “Homeless to Harvard” girl.
